Mixing buff oprhington and rhode island reds

Getting my 1st chickens and am wondering if it is okay to mix these 2. Just looking for good egg layers that can also be meat hens. I really like RIR but hear they can rough up the buffs. I am getting 3 to start with..whats a good mix? 2 buffs and 1 red? Thanks

Of course you can mix them! they get along great, I have to RIR and two Buffs and they love eachother!

I have 3 RIR hens with many other different breeds in my layer pen including 3 buff orp hens and 2 black orp hens, and 3 white orp hens. The Orps can definitely hold their own ground lol. If they are raised together they usually get along. 

Tropical Plant Freak with Marans: Bcm,wheaten,golden cuckoo, BBS, blue copper,barred blk tailed buff, blk tailed buff, blue/blk birchen. Lavender, white, buff, chocolate, black Orps, Silkies, Key West aka Gypsy chickens, Ameraucanas, Muscovies, Sebastapol Geese, Guineas,Gobblers, Parrots. Currently working on some exciting Key West, Orp, & Marans projects.
