Looking for birds in Southern Maine/Freyburg/North Conway/up to Augusta. I live in the Standish/Gorham area and can go up to an hour in any direction.

These will be our first birds, so I'd like to find coop ready or ready to lay pullets. They will be for eggs and maybe eventually meat, so I don't need any show quality birds. Looking for Buff Orpingtons and Eggers, two each. Hoping for at least one Egger that lays blue eggs (my son has his heart set on pretty blue eggs), not too picky on the other as long as I can tell the two birds apart. Would also be interested in Barred Rocks, Black Australorps, Specked Sussex, or any other good layer/meat crosses that are cold hardy, docile and easy to tell apart, 2-3 total for a flock of 6-7 birds.

Looking to find them from somewhere that does NPIP testing including avian influenza, and probably somewhere that vaccinates for Marek's as well. Coop won't be ready until the end of the month, so would be looking to pick up birds no sooner than the end of April.

hatchery birds should have all that you want as far as vaccines and testing but you won't have the quality. only those that show out of state in certain states test for AI, it's not part of our NPIP testing yet.

"won't have the quality"

For health and such, or just in that they wouldn't be show quality? There is a breeder/farm up in Poland I'm planning on looking into. Empire Acres? They'll have some coop ready pullets come May, which might work. Don't know much about them, just saw their ad on CL, haven't gone any farther than that yet.
