We have 6 babies that are about a week and a half old and I am wondering if one of the girls might be a boy, or maybe it's too early to tell.
When I put my hand in the brooder, this one chick runs straight over to check me out and when I hold the others, she stands guard and watches me the whole time. After I put the held chick back in with her peeps the one on guard rushes over to check them out.
Now is this normal behavior for girls or do I have a potential rooster on my hands?
Thanks!

My Jersey Giant chicks would do that, there would be 2 (a cockerel and a pullet) who would run up to me and stop and watch me. The chick is probably curious, or may be a rooster, in training I suppose.

In my first batch of chicks, I had one that exhibited the same behavior. She turned out to be my favorite hen, Maxine. The one that grew up to be rooster acted just like all the other chicks. I guess it's hard to tell.
