Crocheting bolero for formal dress. Help!

I am going to attempt to crochet a bolero to cover my shoulders and a small amount of my upper arms in order to make a strapless formal gown more modest. Most of the patterns I found are rather casual. Do you have any tips for making a bolero look more formal? Or maybe you have patterns to share with me? In order for it to look decent with the dress, it should cover as little of the front of the dress as possible, and be rather short in the back as well. I don't mind if a little skin peeks through the stitches, just as long as the majority of it is covered.
I did find a pattern I like, but I think it would look better in a sport weight yarn rather than the worsted weight the pattern calls for. I may just end up modifying that pattern.

There are some nice patterns in a book on prayer shawls. I think you should be able to modify one to suit your needs. There are a lot of pretty, decorative yarns about these days. Good luck. I hope you can post a picture when it is finished.
