I would like to have few hens in my back yard here in Oklahoma city I do not have an acre we have a garden every year fruit trees and we also compost we pay high tax's so I really don't understand why we can't do what we choose to do on our property I'm not wanting roosters just hens to teach my children how to survive and how even the poo is useable not to mention better eggs then can be bought at the store. Why does everything have to be so difficult I have a privacy fence it would bother no one if I was like some of my neighbors who do have roosters I would already have chickens but I choose to follow the law. Can anyone tell me if we have been approved yet to have hens in Oklahoma city limits? Thank you

Enquire. If you do it against the law just prep yourself and the kids for getting rid of them if anyone complains.Hopefully they don't fine right off the bat.You could try to change the law first.Might be easier to move!

Sheena007- come on over & join us on the Okie board.

Every now & then there is chatter about the OKC council. There was 1 lady in OKC that had birds & animal control showed up so she had to get rid of her flock.

I say if you have good neighbors & a privacy fence then go for it. Just get birds that are not flighty. Or even get a serama & keep it in the house.

I would never spend my hard earned money on buying land or a house where someone else told me how I could live....life is too short. try changing the laws or move....freedom is bliss. ~Charm1704

I DO TOO! I miss my chickens. We moved to Ohio, my daughter and I, and couldn't resist the baby peeps at TSC. Well 8 months later, we had to move back to OKC. I used to find such joy in watching my hens (So happy go lucky) free range in the yard for bugs. They are so cute! chasing moths is funny! Sometimes I would bring them wax worms, and when I called them, they would run to me, their little legs looked like propellers.
Well my yard in OKC had grubs so bad I had to put down granuels. The birds (piegeons, cardinals, bluebirds, etc.) ate the granuels (poison) and died. It made me SICK. I tried to put up foils fans, I turned on the jetstream on the hose and watered the poison into grass as much as I could. You know if I had my chickens, they would have taked care of those grubs for me & given us fresh eggs too! Oklahoma city needs to let us have Chickens! I would love to help you. Maybe we can work together.

My home is in Midwest City. Do we have any updates? Where do I even find the laws. My neighbor had chickens about a year ago. I just don't want to do anything that is going to get the city upset at me, but I have a couple ladies at a friends farm that I would love to bring home with me.

Pretty sure that Midwest City does allow them. Not sure of the numbers, or if roosters are allowed. Del City, Edmond, Guthrie, and Norman also allow them with certain restrictions. Of course, if you live in an HOA all bets are off.

Oklahoma City is the only one right now that says you have to have an acre of land to own chickens.

Wow, I just saw this thread. I've been posting in the "Busted for my chickens" thread from another OKC resident. I'm new to the boards and learning my way around, but would love to unite with OKC people so we can take this to the city council and get the ordinance amended to include lots under an acre in size.
