Straight From the Home Coop

Very nice article, covers a broad range of topics. They even mention raising a hen in a city apartment, suggesting the Olandsk dwarf hen as ideal.

However, I have my doubts about this statement in the article:: "Martha Stewart made chickens fashionable in the 1990s". :)

Four Columbian Wyandotte hens, and a charming young roo who's growing fast.

That's so cool!   More and more people are getting into chickens, and I think that is wonderful news!!   celebrate.gif

It's refreshing to see more and more good press about the delights of backyard chickens.

Great article! I love eggs and can easily eat them in place of meat at nearly every meal. I do worry about cholesterol, though, even from home-raised eggs. However, that doesn't stop me much from eating them. tongue.png

I think it's funny that the Greenfire Farms guy suggested one of his own breeds he sells for $99/pair as indoor chickens. I'm sure there are many bantam breeds that would suffice! That said, his breeds are wonderful, quite rare, and sorely in need of preservation. I just can't afford them!

I'm nobody's wife or mother. Leftist, feminist, atheist, polyamorous, activist, dancer, musician, outlaw. Going to have chickens again when I move out to Whidbey Island next year, but right now I'm just a dreamer. Mostly I'm here to obsess over what breeds I want!
