Earthworms as treats

My four kids and I spent the better part of the afternoon flipping over rocks and boards in search of earthworms to give to our four pullets as treats. When we had a handful we opened the girls' coop. Come to find out, our 2 month old girls don't really care for them and actually shied away! Ah well, we have bait now. I guess we'll head to the pond tomorrow where our worms will be appreciated.
Any other ideas for treats that can be found or scrounged or grown?
 
Look for grubs! my hens fight over those things. Not so much earthworms either but grubs they tear into them.
 
Thanks! We actually saw a few grubs but thought a juicy worm would be better! Never try to out-think a chicken.
 
My girls will eat earthworms, at first they wouldn't even try them but when they finially got brave enough to try it they all liked it. It just takes that first brave soul to try and tell everybody else its ok they will dive in, and Grubs they go nuts for! termites are a really big thing for my girl Uno, but she is the only one that really likes them, but then she likes eating baby gardener snakes YUK.

As a side note.... It really doesn't matter what I find for the girls, my Roosters alway take the credit for finding it even if it comes out of my hand!!!!

Thanks, stormylady! A friend of mine has a worm farm where I could have all the worms I want but that would have been too easy. Now I'll be scratching around looking for grubs. I'll try the worms occasionally to see if they warm up to them. Our adventurist is named Free Range. I bet she'll take the first peck at a worm.
 
1. Get a shovel. 2. Find an empty patch of garden with good worm soil. 3. Start digging. Your chickens be curious and come over to see whats up. If they like worms they will eat them. Ours won't eat eat worms we give them for the most part but when given the opportunity to kick around in loose soil (chickens love this) with the added benefit of worms they go nuts, often spotting them before we do, and picking out smaller invisible-to-humans bugs.
 
My chickens have been going nuts for the little black ants that are everywhere around here. I'm currently spring cleaning all my flower tubs I up-ended them and the ants had made massive colonies in the potting soil. The chickens have been feasting on those boogers for the last few days.
 
I've noticed the girls hanging around the peonies which attract big black ants every year!
 
Earthworms are an often mentioned vector for poultry roundworms.
Think about that when you are giving chickens earthworms as "treats".
 
I don't know if you have tried egg yolk, but my girls (just two weeks old) LOVE it!
Under the heading Learning Center there is a great list of what you can offer chickens as treats. There is also a list what not to feed them.

Lethargic hen- will not sit on roost, just stands with eyes closed and will not eat/drink.
