New in Georgia

we are just getting started and I'd love to hear your suggestions.

 

we started the wrong way about 8 years ago. the baby chicks and baby ducks at the feed store were so cute....

 

took a half dozen each home, and then the drama started.  after that i swore off fowl... but now i am wanting to try again.  just do it right this time.

 

we are building a new coop about 18' x 8', with plans to divide into 3 sections to help with the drama.

 

we are looking for egg production and some meat.  i am trying to figure out what breeds would be good in Georgia (summers can get hot) , where can i get chicks, good set up for the coop, good  brands of products to keep the chicks healthy, safe and happy.

Leghorns are good production hens. And are not big and hefty, though they are flighty. Broilers are only 6-8 week keepers and are easy for meat.

TIME is the best thing to spend on a child!
Always calibrate your hygrometer before you incubate!!
