If a Isa Brown was a simple RIR/RIW cross, wouldn't they be rose combed ?

An ISA Brown is a four way cross.

If the RIR is the male and the RIW is the female and she carries the silver(white) required, the result could be sexed at hatch, aka sexlink.

Most interesting Fred- I never knew they were a 4 way cross.

140 chooks, one peacock, 13 Boer goats and two dogs.

Breeding poultry for 48 years. Currently breed Araucanas, Barred Rocks (Dark, Light & White), Pekins, Silver Laced Wyandottes,

Light Sussex,

Semi-retired and living on a little farm on the edge of the Bunyip State Forest.

Yup.  The ISA has been bred for over 30 years and still holds most of the world's brown egg laying records for commercial hens.  Here's the 30 pullets I'm brooding right now.

I put a part Araucana rooster over some of mine and they 'split" fairly evenly into white and red hens in the first cross.

IMHO, they are a cross breed (yes a cross breed because they are different breeds)
