ivy and her henI am from devine texas, I am a home school teacher of four children . we have thirty three young hens plymouth rock's  and road island reds and eleven adult hens and five roosters. we live on a small farm . we have three hog dogs.horses, duck, pigs wild and domestic . my children have enjoyed hatching the chicken eggs in the incubator and watching the chicks grow there feathers. we just started to keep our hens in a pen rather than free range because of the wild animals killing them and the neighbors dog's. I was searching for help on how much to feed the hens in there pen when I came across BYC .we enjoyed our chickens more when they were free ranged . The hens would come into the house and lay eggs. And one day we drove all the way to town when we realized we had a hen in the bed of the truck when we stopped the hen jumped on to the tool box ,she had a safe ride home in the front seat.

It's the shape that makes the breed, and the color that makes the variety.
