Best bedding material?

I am planning on using river sand in the run.

But I'm not sure when it comes to the coop.  Right now I'm using ground cob in the brooding box.

Is this good for the coop as well?

Sand works great in the coop... Easy to keep clean and tidy.  Just use a little D. Earth (food grade) sprinkled on the sand.  And buy or make a sifting rake to scoop the turds out every few days...  You're good to go!

I use pine inside the coop and sand in the run. I clean both coop and run 2-5 times a day. I use DE, but this year will only be in the run since it's so dusty.

Nicole01 - You clean your coop 2-5 times a day? Wow, if I only had that much time.

 

I use pine shavings in my coop and sand in my run. I have found that the sand has compacted so much because of winter and spring weather, that it stinks if turned up. But, it's pretty quick to dry out. I'm going to look into a different run material when we enlarge our run. May just leave it bare ground but we'll see. I use the deep litter method in the coop and have been happy with it. I'll use that in the new coop as well BUT use Sweet PDZ on the dropping boards. I don't use anything on one board and shavings on the other now.
