how long should i wait to cut the umbilical cord? i dont want it to bleed to death. and i already lost 1 to premature hatch. PLEASE HELP!!!

it is just trying to stand up. ive never done this before and am worried. the cord is still attached to the egg and chick is rolling around with th egg and cord. but right now she is asleep.

DO SOME RESEARCH!!!!!!!!! i DONT KNOW, SO I CANT HELP, BUT MAYBE THE INTERNET CAN!
Ahaha, Isnt that why she came here? lol.

Anyways....just leave it alone, it's perfectly normal, all chicks have a little umbelical cord when they hatch. By the time he is fluffy, the cord will have dried and fell off.

Only worry when you have a chick with it's organs falling out of its belly button, this has happened to me plenty of times. If you think you have a chick like that, then post some pics or describe how it looks so we can help. But other wise, just leave the chick alone and the cord should fall off soon. Good luck with the rest of your hatch!!

im sorry i know its late, but should i put some food in the bator for it,or just leave it?

(Late? Late for what?) No, you shouldn't put food in there, chicks don't need food for the first 48 to 72 hours, the live of their reserves inside them from the yolk. Thats how hatcheries ship day old chicks across the country.

Plus, food and water make a big mess in the bator. they will kick the food around and get it wet and mushy. If you put in water for them to drink, they may knock it over, and other than that, it will higher your humidity in the bator. Once, I put water in the bator for the chicks to drink, and it bumped up the humidity to 99%! Well....hope none of that happens to you, keep us posted!
