Marijuana?

I live in Northern Cali

My chickens may come into contact with some legal medical marijuana on occasion. Is there any harm from my chickens eating marijuana leaves? They seem to love anything green that I put in front of them.

Would there be any harm to my girls, from eating organic Cali Kush leaves?cool.png

I simply have no expertise to answer this, but I, too await answers.caf.gif 

 I know people have wondered about their chickens eating onions or garlic, and what effect that might have on the eggs. Also, some chickens get into herb gardens (no pun intended), and some herbs are known for beneficial effects. I haven't heard of harm coming from those plants.  Extrapolate that, and perhaps your girls could eventually provide a new medicine delivery model!

I've never heard of chickens coming into contact with marijuana, but I guess you are a user?

I have friends & neighbors that are growers & caregivers. They grow some big plants up here & there are lots of leaves available at times. I have access to all they could possibly eat.

Anybody ever feed their chickens pot?

I don't think any harm would come to them. The HTC (I think that's the chemical) is mainly contained in the buds of the plant, which are present for a short time and they are generally higher up on the plant, therefore less likely to be eaten by the birds. And the chemical is only present in concentrated amounts for a very short time.

To answer the question you are thinking right now... No, I don't smoke or grow but I also grew up in Northern CA and you tend to get educated there lol!

The " THC" is in the leaves and in the plant itself,tho as u said higher in concentration in the buds.If they are eating the leaves they are getting it in their system. As to the amount and the effect on the chickens that I would not know.Do they have a sudden craving for Yoo Hoo's ? And No I am not a user either.

Out in the country with our Jack Russell,Yogi,Yup thats him with my harmonica,Our lady ,Sadie,A Rat Terrier,all these birds my wife has me feed and build houses for(the Bluebirds esp.)and now six Cinnamon Queens...Oh My...(I am convinced that life is10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.And so it is with you..we are in charge of our attitudes.)

I used to do a lot of backpacking in the national forests in CA and came across lots of grow plots but don't ever remember seeing wild birds eating or pecking at buds or leaves. As a matter of fact, I don't remember seeing any wildlife partaking of the herb. Maybe they'll just ignore it.

Many years ago I raised canaries.  Occasionally I could get pot seed for my birds as a treat.  They loved it, and their feathers were brighter in color and they sang better than when I couldn't get pot for them.  They never displayed any highs, like people do.
