They are good chickens for egg laying and for being food wise. But when holding them you'll have to be careful, my chickie pecks me in the eye and the mouth (she even ate food out of my mouth...
I absolutely adore my 6 Bantam Frizzled Cochin hens. They are so cut, and all they make you want to do is hug them! They make great therapy chickens, better than any other breed. I come from a...
Honestly, they are great birds. We have 2 boys freeranging together and neither one has ever gotten the least bit aggressive with us and they are very polite to their girls as well. No missing...
We love our Nankin hen. She's very sweet and good natured, excellent bird for beginners or kids. She comes when called, she's an excellent bug hunter, likes to sit on your lap (or head, or...
Wondered if anyone else uses chain saw shavings for bedding in there coops for the hens. For years I've avoided using these shavings because I was concerned with the minute amount of oil contamination from the bar oiler. Any thoughts??

I've used them a lot! In the fall, when we're putting our wood up for the winter, I wind up with cans and cans of them. I store them somewhere dry until I need them. I'm not letting all that great wood go to waste. And the really fine stuff from the table saw or radial arm saw is saved for the brooder.

Well, the kittens aren't so cute anymore and the easter egger cockerels are in the freezer. Plus, I think offering them as "prizes" scared folks off! So, I'm still posting quotes, if you know it let me know. I'm very enamored of this new one, it may hang around for a while!

I use them as well. A friend of mine dumps his tree job chips in our yard when he has them. I use them in the coop when they're nice and dry. If they get rained on, I spread them around the run to help soak up any mud and poo that's there.

I'm inclined to agree, Tony. The oil contamination would worry me.
