Leghorns? pullets? Roo? Please help... - Page 2

I have seen many pictures of either leghorns or white rock pulletts or hens, a lot of them have their comb. Could these two still be females?

Pullet combs do not get red until just before they lay, maybe 16-18 weeks for leghorns and 20 weeks for rocks. Your chicks are almost definitely less than 6-8 weeks, which means the only way they'd have that much comb development is to be males. Hormones lead them to develop differently. Sorry hmm.png

Blaze, reading your last post I am almost convinced now they are white rock. One especially is the first one to come to me and follows me everywhere. If I squat down for a second, he is on my back and I can barely get him off. You guys are probably right...

Rocks are great layers. They lay cream to light brown eggs, and by the time they are one year old the eggs will be large and daily. My barred rocks at 3yrs are still laying every other day, now jumbo sized. Fantastic personalities and beautiful birds - I love the full-bodied look. Enjoy! They definitely have the personality advantage over those skittish leghorns thumbsup.gif

Edited to add - white rock boys dress out VERY nicely for the dinner table, I hear. The "meat birds, etc" section of the forum can guide you if you are interested to learn more about the "farm to table" aspect of ending up with male birds.
