Muscovie hens can brood 20 ducklings at a time, and ducklings are quite a bit bigger than chicks. I'll be brooding three batches of one hundred layer chicks this spring and summer. A farm in the area is selling adult muscovies. I can keep them away from the pond till the chicks are chickens.
Questions:
Has anyone else done this?
Can I get them to go broody with dummy eggs at this time of year?
How many chicks can each one handel?
How should the nests be set up?
How long do I have to let them set before adding chicks?
I got the idea because a friend of mine got muscovie ducklings that were almost fully feathered and some mix breed downy ducklings one of the muscovy ducklings brooded the mix breed ducks. Now that's what I call a broody.
