They are delicious.  big_smile.png

One of the best containers for water i find are the rubber livestock bowls/feeders, strong and are deep enough for them. They will breed anywhere so water has nothing to do with it, mine do like pools though and will happily splash and swim around but they don't really 'hang out' just floating about in a pool.

My hens lay all year round lol i had plenty of eggs... and still do. I do not a feed a layer since i have drakes(and hear mixed things on drakes consuming a layer) so i offer oyster shell and opt for a standard feed instead, my birds also forage during daylight hours.

oh yeah, i've learned nearly everything i know about muscovy genetics/health from the forums and bugging people with questions, remember" there's no such thing as a silly question", your better of learning something new than worrying about looking silly.

oh i should have added that they dont need to swim but they like it a lot! remember if you have ducklings in the future to make sure if they have access to a pool that there are some bricks or rocks in it to stand on above the water level otherwise they might drown.

OK, now I have a another Q.  are Muscovy ducklings different to care for then the ones from the mallard derived ducklings? If so, how are they different from them besides the taste of the meat?

Ducks do not need a pond to breed, but you will have a higher rate of fertility in your eggs if they have a kiddie pool that is deep enough for them to swim in. If they are 2 years old they should still be able to lay. It's fine to give the female ducks chicken layer feed, but drakes can die of liver disease if they eat it. Unfortunately, it's hard, if not impossible, to feed the females one thing and the drakes another.
