Frequent crusty butt... what's wrong?

I have 3 four week old silkie chicks and every day I check them for crusty butt and each time it seems at least one of them has it. I raised 5 ees last year and none of them got it. Is there something going on?

You may want to put some corn meal in their food, this will help with the pasty butt and firm up their poop so it won't stick. I do this with my 2 week old Ameracauna babies and no pasty butt.

It takes awhile to go away. If you have trouble cleaning it soaking their back end in warm water while gently wiping their vent with a paper towel works. Then after you dry them off put some oil on their vent area. I used olive oil. You can use Vaseline as well. It's pretty normal to get pasty butt with fuzzy bottom chicks. My Silkie had it really bad.
