chick purr?

Soooo im trying to get my 7 week old chicks to get used to being around my big chickens (with supervision) and so i went into the coop and brought them with me (i have 2). The adults payed no attention to them so i set them by my feet knowing theyd stay within arms reach but my rooster then turned around and attacked one I managed to grab one but he chased the other around the coop jumping on it and ripping feathers i ran after him and grabbed the chick. Now that particular chick was the least friendly and tended to be a bit flighty but after i saved it it wouldn't leave me and stayed snuggled against me... but the weird part was... it made a purring noise that i have never heard before! What does it mean?

Poor little thing...  I've had birds make a purring sound when they're content, and I've heard a purring type sound (maybe a low trilling?) when perceived danger is nearby.  So if the danger was gone, I'd guess the chick is feeling comforted and comfortable....

Caretaker of a lovely mixed flock including: australorp, plymouth rocks, wyandotte, d'uccles, silkies, EEs, andalusian, and a few seramas, plus a golden retriever, great dane, and three cats.  I always swore that I wouldn't succumb to chicken math.  I lied.
