intergration and free range

Thread Starter

I intergrated 4 new chicks to 3 old chickens last night. The chicks are 7 weeks old. They are in a coop with a run. The newbies do not seem like they are part of the flock yet. How long should I wait until I release tham to free range the yard? I am guessing about a week.

I do not let my chicks free range with out super vision untill they are 2 months old... around a month and a half, with a chick rooster... They are very one track mind when they are so young... They have a hard time noticing when something is wrong... (Hawk, fox, etc) But under supervision, one week old is fine for short periods of time, as they get older, increase time outdoors... (when they start huddling together tightly it is a sign to go inside)

Hope this helps
