Howdy from Belleville, Illinois, where I am starting to research how to get a city ordinance changed. I grew up with backyard chickens in Cape Girardeau. Had to give them up when hubby joined the military and we started moving around. Now we seem to be staying put...But Belleville does not allow so much as a pet chicken. Even though we are outside the city limits, and deer and wild turkeys wander through our yard on a regular basis, we are not allowed to have chickens. (and my neighbors hate me, so they'd squeal for sure). I did ponder raising some nice quiet quail for a bit, indoors in the shed...but...I'd rather get a stupid law changed, than break it. My favorite chickens growing up were buff orpingtons. Even leaash trained one that I named Bach Bach ( she had a very musical croon). I love chickens, will probably just lurk and try to get some ideas on how to get the ordinance changed, and see what's going on for a bit.

seem like a good breed, if i had the room i would probably raise a batch of them they seem like they would be a good 4h starter show bird...considering i dont see many of this breed in my class... -
its a feed scooper it cant be perfect but over all when every thing is said an done i love mine its great its starting to show a little wear an tear but its to be expected i have had it for 4... -
I have one silkie. From the time we got her, she layed 3 eggs a week and was so sweet and friendly! Then, she went broody 3 times in a row But she came back to us just as friendly as the first...
