Fertilized egg question

Thread Starter

hello, i have a few friends and co workers that are asking about eggs. The question always comes up, Do you have a rooster? Will the eggs be fertilized? are they still o.k. to eat?

i do own a rooster and the eggs are getting fertilized, i do however collect my eggs once a day and refridgerate them.  How should i go about answering these people? They are uneducated in chickens but i myself am not sure how to answer there questions.

You could be honest and say yes, there is a single rooster cell in these eggs. Or you could side skirt it some by saying these eggs wont grow an embryo or hatch (in reality that depends how cold your refrigerator is). Depending on your audience a combination of both might be in order.

I'm lucky in we live in rural area that's not but a generation from being working family farms. They know animals and about the birds and the bees.

There's so little to fear from hatching even chickens dare. In fact, it's so easy a turkey can do it.

what i say to people is that "the eggs could hatch if you put them in a 100-degree box for 3 weeks but otherwise they are fine"
