Ordering day-old chicks from MPC

Hello everyone! I was wondering if others were running into this problem when trying to order chicks from MPC. Yesterday after reading everything I could here at BYC, I did a search to find the closest hatchery to me. I want specific breed banties. I found them at MPC. The home page boasts that they will ship as few as 3 chicks to a customer. However there is a link to click that will calculate the # of chicks they will ship to your zip code. I have to buy 9 bantam chicks. That's really more than I want but I know sometimes chicks die in transit, etc. Yesterday I fiddled around on their site and picked 9 chicks into my cart. I didn't check out because the total with $36 shipping was $136. My husband was incredulous! Nonetheless, tonight I decided to go ahead and buy the 9 Banty chicks. My cart came up and when I got to checkout, I have to choose shipping. It's Express Mail for chicks Ground $44.20 or Express Mail for chicks 3rd Day $50.86 or Express Mail 2nd Day $58.85 or Express Mail Next Day for $84.75. I thought $36 was a lot to pay for what I thought was 1 day shipping. Seems practical that chicks only have that 72 hr. window when they can be shipped while still being able to nourish themselves. In one day the shipping almost tripled!! I can't afford MPC and I'm very frustrated. Anyone else having trouble with their shipping costs?

MPC Express shipping is $36.95.  They might even give you options to ship fewer chicks, like shipping to another post office.  ((They've done that for me.))  If you've got other stuff in the cart, the shipping will increase because it has to ship separately.  Maybe you should give them a call?  They've always been really helpful to me.

Call around local feed stores - most of them have chicks - and best part no shipping.

tho I haven't gotten my chicks yet, I order from MPC, 8 chicks different breeds, shipping to CT from Ohio and shipping was 36.95,  I don't recall seeing other options on shipping other than what I paid, but I could have missed it..

This...

I live in the same state as MPC was going to order from them for my spring chicks this year, until I heard they use Meyer hatchery chicks... Then I said no way, Meyer chicks are horrible.. Then ordered from another hatchery..
