First timer here, just looking to get a coop started. I have no chicks as of yet. Have a promise from out local school to give me the chicks from a project they are doing on incubating eggs. Checking out your site for coop designs and have a couple picked out. Going out right now to price some chicks/starter kits at local agg store. What I wanted to know is: ( I did not see in the FAQ's) do coops need a rooster? I am reading all that I can and am getting impatient, but excited. With the warm weather that hit us in March, I am feeling the need to have a coop and flock started right away, LOL.
My husband and I have been buying from a neighbor but he can't keep up production; this is what prompted me to start a coop. I have a 3 year old and would like to have him learn all about self sufficient living even if it is on the basic level; small garden, couple of fruit trees and coop.
Any suggestions and help members have to offer would be GREATLY appreciated. What have you tried and good, bad and the abysmal failures. I would like to learn from other s and not make the same mistakes.
