Which was free OF the Church of England. The ruling power.
They did allow other religions in other colonies but not their own... which would be stupid to do when the death rate was so high. That would be like today practicing islam in a Christian church...again stupid. They did split and form other colonies until the Great Awakening.

Regardless here in America you are free to practice ANY religion but some do have a more difficult time than others despite government accommodations.

The Puritans did not come to the New World to practice freedom of religion; they came to the New World for the freedom to practice their religion. This is not a small technicality. They officially did not allow other religions to be practiced. Puritans actively persecuted Quakers and others. Branding and death were consequences of not following the Puritan way.

The Pilgrims and Jamestown, the first "American" settlements, were both commercial ventures. You might as well argue that the United States was founded on capitalism instead of Christianity.

I don't believe ever Santorum supporter is going to Ron Paul.

Well, once Lucky found out that I was an athiest liberal I knew the jig was up. Plus his reasoning was so precise that I had little to do but to turn to you. Now, just between me and you, when he talks about the media being controlled by those against Christians, I think he means the Jews. I dont think there are any athiest who own major media outlets so its either them or them muslims. You know, Obama's friends. In any case I thought the discussion on the topics posed by Lucky are more to your liking then mine. Now, dont get me wrong, I would be glad to debate the topics with him except I think it would be akin to talking to myself. With you, for the most part, it is fun because you use entire sentences and always have interesting facts that have been well researched (even though I never agree with them). Besides, are there any normal folk who are that enamored with Ron Paul? Come to think of it, I remember that I quite liked Adlai Stevenson when he ran against Eisenhower and actually thought he could win. But remember, I was probably 8 years old at the time. Get the picture??

Well, good luck with it....

I'm not sure if you mean "anyone who is not Christian" or specifically atheists by this comment, but if the latter that would be odd. Just a little while ago you were mocking other forum users about the fact that atheists make up a small percentage of the population. It would be very odd indeed to turn around and claim that small percentage is holding back a candidate.

I sympathize completely with your point about extremes and the two dominant parties, but your point may be better made with a term that is not as offensive as "Bible thumpers", and if the blame for an issue isn't shifted all to one group as some previous posters have done. You probably already know that it is never black and white like that.

There was a recent thread on the subject of why atheism isn't a religion that goes into much more detail than the following. To briefly summaraize though:
1. While atheism may be a part of certain groups or religions...it is not a religion itself
2. Simply being a deist doesn't make one religious, and not all deists are part of a religion. Same thing with atheism, but to a larger degree
3. The shared trait of atheists is that a deity or higher power is not recognized. That is not enough to constitute a religion

Describing a diverse group of people as one would cockroaches? I sure hope that isn't how Christianity tells people to treat each other. Thankfully, I know that it is not.

Quote: Where did you get that idea from? Rupert Murdoch? That would be ironic. ;D

Quote: I do too...but it certainly doesn't excuse the rude and derogatory comments above made about atheists. You have not done Christianity or yourself a single favor with such hateful words. Thankfully, many recognize that such behavior is an individual fault, and not representative of everyone within a group.

Punk a doodle...I am cautioning you that if you continue to make well reasoned and calm responses you will possibly be barred from this thread. I am really suprised at you!!.. I loved all of it, except I do not believe that chickened was refering to athiests when he made that comment but he does make some other comments that he could be taken to the wood shed over.

Just give me a thread or two guys...and be there to tell me when I just planted my foot firmly in my mouth. It's about a three to three ratio. XD
