Okay, guys, enough talking points.  Let's get facts.

 

@Mahonri - can you give me an example of how Romney is really conservative?  I know he talks conservative, but his past actions (that I know of) indicate otherwise, particularly the MA assault weapons ban, Romneycare, and support of the bailouts.  I'd love it if I had a reason to believe his rhetoric, however.

 

Also, I resent being referred to as brainwashed, particularly since I make it a point to visit a variety of news sites to get a variety of viewpoints (from Huffington Post to Fox News all the way to Lew Rockwell, and plenty in between).  You'll find that most of those who are truly brainwashed are the ones who rely on the television for all their news.

 

@Hemet Dennis - the Federal Government does have legitimate functions.  The Interior Dept. is not one.  The Constitution lays the legitimate ones out very clearly.  Everything else?  Handled by the states or by the people, OR designated as a Federal function by way of amendments to the Constitution.  The Fedgov's primary role, however, is national defense, not screwing around with domestic functions that, IMO, are best handled locally.

 

@Capvin - well, lucky for you.  I'll be old enough to vote in the election this November.  I believe I'm not allowed to specify my age on BYC, but that should make it pretty obvious that I'm older than 16.  Funny thing, I've always been taught to stand by my principles, even if it seems futile.

@RHRanch - see the examples I posted, then see the horrible mismanagement of Yellowstone for contrast.

I am well aware about the problems with our national parks.  Mismanagement is no excuse to put our last remaining wild places in the hands of private landowners.  The entire reason our national parks were created was to save them from the ecological destruction that had already occured all over most of our country by the early part of the 1900's. (And to keep them as wild spaces open to all US citizens)   Reform of the park system, not abandonment is what is in order.

The owners of Natural Bridge apparently find conservation to be extremely profitable.  Why shouldn't that same thing apply to other parks?  At the very least, the parks should be managed at the state level.  The Federal government has no authority to run them, not to mention, it costs money - that it doesn't have.

Actually, come to think of it, what would stop conservation groups like Greenpeace from buying large chunks of park land?  I'm no fan of a lot of what Greenpeace does, but at the same time, conservation, IMO, is a worthwhile endeavor, and tourism would likely pay for the park's upkeep with ease.  I recall reading about a kid who was 13 years old or something.  He started a conservation fund and bought several hundred acres of the Amazon rainforest.

A lot of groups do buy up land for conservation, and private owners can sometimes place protections on their property that extend beyond their lifespans. However, I'm of the opinion that ultimately, unless population growth is slowed and reversed for a time, land isn't going to continue to be preserved, contracts or not.

Romney believes in traditional marriage.  He lives it.  Look at his family. "By their fruits ye shall know them"

Romney believes in life.  SERIOUSLY, when he has said he believes in a woman's right to choose, it is ONLY in  RARE CASES of rape, incest and saving the life of the mother.  That's it.

Romney believes in balanced budgets.  It's what he has always done and he always finds a way.

Romneycare is in NO WAY like Obamacare.  Study it out.

Sadly, many conservatives INCLUDING John Kyl voted for the bailout because they received faulty information.  I think the same is true of Romney. NOW almost everyone who supported them, realize what a mistake that was. 

I'm one feels that anyone who believes anything anti-Romney is a person who believes rhetoric!

As for the assault weapons ban, he'll readily admit that was a mistake and he learns from his mistakes. 

 

I get my info from all over the net. ...and I'll admit, I also watch Fox and CNN from time to time... but rarely.

But, that said, I can measure most men by looking them in the eye.

I made a determination to get to know Mitt. I've had a number of opportunities to chat with him about the future of our nation and how he will go about RESTORING IT to what it once was.  He is truly our ONLY hope at this point.

Sadly, in MA, ANY politician has to "appear" liberal.  He may have "appeared" liberal, but, HE IS NOT!

Mitt Romney is a true conservative, just like me.  I am praying that conservatives everywhere will get behind him.  I also have full faith & confidence that at some point before August, Ron Paul will endorse Mitt Romney.

 

Q-9  When I said under 16 I was not referring to your age.  But I am sure that you are a nice person anyway.

I have noticed that once you start a thread you tend to sit back and not get involved back in the discussion.  You throw out a statement, like the one above, and then let the thread take on a life of its own.  If you are going to start this crap, then have some real information to back it up.  I doubt that what you stated is true.  Has "every single one of them" reported in to you and stated that they are now backing Ron Paul?
