Eggbound Hen Help

Thread Starter

I believe I have an eggbound hen. She was standing off to herself with her back bowed up when we found her. She seems a little weak and her tail is pointing down. She has poop all over her backside; I guess from the egg obstruction. Can someone please tell me what I can do for her.

Thank You!!!!

I'm sorry you're having this problem, good luck! I just did a search and thought this thread looked pretty informative. http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/219296/egg-bound
I personally know nothing about egg bound hens, so I really hope that helps! fl.gif

I would clean her up. Feel around her vent for the egg. If you feel the egg you will then need to lube the egg inside her.

I'm out of eggs. But I know where some brown ones are. I now raise big Ol' Honkin' Bob Whites & Layed back Coturnix. Pray For Rain In Texas!

I gave her a warm bath last night and massaged her belly and when I felt around inside her vent I didn't feel an egg. But, on the bright side! She is much better today!! She is out of her box and walking around. She ate a little but I have not seen her drink any water. Her belly still seems a little swollen though and her tail is still not pointing upward like it normally is. But she seems to feel better.

Thanks for your help!!!
