New in Seattle

Thread Starter

Hi everyone!

My name is Lisa, and my family just joined the chicken game this past weekend.  We picked up 3 chicks for our son's 3rd birthday, and to be layers for us.  My husband and I just finished reading Eating Animals and decided to do something about the nasty and cruel factory farm situation.  So we bought a coop, a few books, and jumped right in!

We have three different breeds: 1 RIR (Ginger), 1 Dominique (Henrietta), and 1 Delaware (Toby).  They are currently in a brooder in our garage until they're sturdy enough for the Seattle Spring.  They are growing like weeds and so much fun already!

I ran across this group when looking up information on how to get started, and finally joined.

Looking forward to getting to know you!

Hello and welcome-byc.gif ! I think it's fantastic that you want to do something about the battery hens, it was one of the deciding factors in us getting chickens too. Since we got them, we haven't ever had to buy store-bought eggs, unless we have guests round, and even then we buy free range. Good luck with your chicks, sounds like you're going to have a lot of fun with them! Enjoy the site. big_smile.png
