We love our Nankin hen. She's very sweet and good natured, excellent bird for beginners or kids. She comes when called, she's an excellent bug hunter, likes to sit on your lap (or head, or...
I have 6 Barnies, they did start laying at about 28 weeks, but that is not an issue with me. Most of my poultry did. They don't lay the really dark eggs, but they are large, dark brown and some...
Leghorns are great egg laying chickens. They are friendly to other Leghorns and can easily fly. The only problems is that they are bad in the pecking order and they can make a mess of the yard....
I will start by saying that I love Australorps. In fact, my very favorite hen is an Australorp. She is such a sweet chicken and just let's you walk right up to her to pick her up. She doesn't run...
These eggs are coming from 2 year old Golden Comets. I've never raised chickens before and don't know if this is normal or not. I've read up on mites, lice, nutrient deficiencies, diet. What is it? I'm clueless.
You mean little bumps? That's nothing to worry about. It's just maybe a little bit of calcium deposits on your eggshell. I've gotten lots of eggs like that.....They come and go.....You'll see little variations, which is normal.

Proud owner of some nice show quality Buckeyes and Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks. I love gardening and being outdoors. I'm lucky to have a great family, and two cute dogs. I live out in the country on six wooded acres and it's just paradise! (Except the mortgage payment and bills, of course)

It really hadn't bothered me. But being a new momma to these hens and 6 chicks, I have been reading everything I could. Once i started reading what things to look for in a healthy bird, well I started freaking out. I've had my chicks for 4 weeks and my older hens for 3 weeks. So there has been alot of change for the girls. Change of home, diet, integration of new chicks. So I'm happy to be getting any eggs at all.
