Yeah, we've moved on to "save the polar bears" for some reason. Remember back in the late 70's, Greenpeace went out and spray painted a bunch of seals red so their pelts were useless to hunters? The seals were easily spotted by polar bears and every one of them were eaten. Even as a 8-9 year old I saw the comical irony in the situation.


True. but the real (not well publicized) reason was that one of the major natural predators of seals is the shark. More seals = more sharks. More sharks = more shark attacks.

 

To quote Robert Heinlein in his novel, Glory Road, "Please milord husband, I don't know all the answers in this case. I simply know that disturbing a natural balance is a matter to be approached with fear and trembling--and a very versatile  computer. The Nevians seem content not to bother the dragons."
