It's Friday, the 13th... and setting eggs - Page 6

I candled, there seems to be one egg that is way more developed than the rest, how did this happen? lol, but most of them seem to be doing just fine.

Candled today on day 8.  Of the local wheaten ameraucana eggs, 7/8 had veining and a dancing embryo.  That was fun and gratifying to see, this being my first attempt at incubating.  One had a possible bloodring.  The shipped BBS ameraucana eggs had larger, wiggly air cells.  These eggs were harder to see into than the wheaten ameraucana eggs and I could only identify a dark irregular mass I'm hoping is a viable embryo in 8 out of 11.  One had a possible bloodring, and 2 of the 11 seemed clear.  The shipped welsummer eggs were even harder to see into, but a large irregular wiggly air cell was visible in each.  Four of the thirteen seemed clearer than the rest, one might have shown a bloodring, and eight of the thirteen had a large dark irregular mass.  The 10 local marans eggs were no easier to see into:  7/10 showed a large dark irregular mass, 2/10 seemed clearer, and one seemed to show a bloodring.

So what did I learn from candling?  The wheaten ameraucanas are coming along nicely, and I really can't see into any of the others.  The shipped eggs have larger, wiggly air cells - say "14 week size" from the picture showing air cells for each week incubation.  Humidity has been steady at around 30 - 35% since the incubator reached 98 degrees.  I've decided to add a little water, say 30 cc's via the syringe I use, with a straw to deliver the water to the bottom of the bator.

Too much information, right?  But its all new to me and I'm having fun with it.

day 7 for me just candled for the second time and now down to 11/24 which i dont think is bad at all :D as they where posted and looked like they had been badly handled during postage amazing to see how fast quail eggs develope after doing ducks its almost like someone put them on fast forward , so hoping for a good hatch now really cant wait.

I candeled last night out of the 7 shipped eggs looks like i have 5 with veins one clear and maybe one blood ring... Out of my 12 polish crested i have 6 clear and 6 veining lol....

Im hopin they all hatch

Happy 7 day mark everyone! 

I have about 14 guinea eggs that I put in on the 13th. All but about 5 of them have obvious development. If the 5 don't catch up in two more days they are going to be chicken food.
 

Hope you don't mind another member. I just candled mine tonight and out of 41--7 had to be removed with 3 kinda iffy. None of my last attempt hatched, I don't think they were fertile though, I just started and was told not to handle the eggs, so I didn't until one stunk then remove it and top right back on. So no candling know better now. Also I am trying the dry method-- no water till lock down then plenty. I am so excited. 

Candled them all today. Only had to take out one  the rest are doing really good. Hope everyone else's eggs are doing good 

I was showing my husband how difficult it was to see into the marans eggs when a little dark shadow popped up and danced around in the light, just to prove (s)he was there.  So cute!
