Lethargy and dropped wings, no appetite - old Rhode Island Red

For a few days now our very old Rhode Island hasnt been eating well - doesn't touch grain, ate various other, softer things like porridge and crushed biscuits and cereals. Today she is barely moving and has dropped wings and as far as I can tell has not eaten at all. I am aware that her age is probably a factor but she is much loved so I really don't want to let her go without a fight - I at least want her comfortable. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Got my first chicken when I was a year old, my Mother grew up with chickens, and so did her parents, and yet still I learn something new about them every day!

1 Salmon Faverolle, 1 Indian Game and a cross breed cockerel, plus 5 adorable Belgian and Belgian/Modern Game cross. We seem to collect the chickens family and friends don't want - makes for an interesting flock!

How old is she? I've noticed chickens do slow down rapidly when they're old and stops eating etc, but it sounds like your girl may be sick. I don't know what to say hu.gif

She may have reached the end of the road now. It's a terrible feeling watching a loved chicken die, been there myself. hugs.gif

I couldn't tell you exactly how old she is but for a Rhode she's a little old lady - she must have seen three generations of chickens pass through our garden! It's especially sad as she's the Granddaughter of our first ever Rhodes, Dennis and Dora, (yes she is Dora III - we had eighteen chicks and so they were all Dennis and Dora Juniors big_smile.png ) and she's the last one of her breed that we have.
She has been ill and bounced back before but I think she is on her way out now sad.png. It's just a shock since we've never had one die of illness- all the old ones have just gone to sleep with their heads under their wings. Thanks for replying at least smile.png
