Human Incubation of Chicken Eggs

Hello all,

Anyone hear of and can verify successful incubation of chicken egg by human body?

I am day 2 night 3 into my second attempt (first ended in a disaster roll out).

The Plan:

one fine fertilized chicken egg from local farm is placed inside my bra (does breast size matter here? i think so, as they have sufficient padding for the egg and i think it's pretty humid in there).

at night i wear a support tank with egg nestled inside. Egg only leaves for brief periods of time (mainly to shower) and is surrogated by wrapping in a warm fleece sock and tucked under my sleeping cats belly.

i am obsessively curious and must know if this is possible. Can anyone tell me if this has worked before? Any suggestions to increase possibility?

I've read post here on BYC about someone doing this a year or so ago. Don't remember how it ended you can maybe search and find others that have done it. I think it might take longer then 21 days since your body temp is lower then incubation temps. You might have better results if you let the hen incubate and take the egg over the last 3 days and hatch it.

There was a lady who tried this (NurseTurtle, I believe). She did it for a week or so, and then stuck it in the incubator. The egg ended up dying a few days later.

My concerns are the following: Human body temp is only 98.6 on average, and that's INSIDE the mouth. I'm guessing that between the breasts, it's probably 96 or 97, which seems a bit too cold to adequately incubate an egg.

I also worry about there being too much movement.

I also worry about breakage if you are at all active.

However, it does sound like an interesting experiment, and I'd love to be proven wrong.

Even if you do get it to hatch, you should probably put it in an incubator the last 3 days. If you let it hatch in your bra, there would be a big mess, as they always make a mess when they hatch. Keep us updated and good luck

So, I have never hatched eggs before. Wondering if the big mess includes mostly shell, or if there is quite a bit of moisture as well?

I was also worried about the temp, but found a few sites that suggested incubation can be successful at 95, but will take more time.

As for the movement, the egg doesn't roll about while in my bra, but I am wondering the same thing. However, maybe having a heartbeat near it will be an advantage over a machine incubator?

If it breaks, hopefully it doesn't happen when i'm at work!

I'll try to find Nurse Turtle and ask more about her experience. Thanks!

Do you worry about the egg breaking when you're sleeping? I've broke one in my pocket before and it was a mess.

Oh it's much more than just shell.........

there's allot of dust from their down feathers (people that work at hatcheries have to wear face masks during hatch days because of the tons of dust there)

Theres the poop, yes, a baby chick that just hatched does poop. I'ts a green watery poop, and there is always allot of that stuff all over my incubator during hatch time.

Then there's also a smell. It doesn't neccesarily smell"bad", but it is very noticeable. If you ever hatch in an incubator, and open the lid during hatch time, a warm humid smell comes out. I kinda like the smell, it makes me think of baby chicks hatching and summertime. But other's opinions on the smell might be different....

There are so many other mess things that I just cannot describe, good luck finding a solution to that lol
