Frustrating and weird hatch/ evaluation?

My first hatch I had to help, the next I didn't and this 3rd one I do again.

I play over and over in my head the scenario's.

This hatch? Some are zipping and getting out, they seem to know what to do?

Others will pip and stop....period. next day same hole no progress. I help them out

(which I hate doing) and they do fine. 

 

It seems they pip and no zip and are in a position where they can't move around?

Has anyone else dealt with the pip no zip? Pip not progress after 24 hours?

 

My second hatch, nearly half hatched and the other half was all full or super 

close to full development but are dead in shell.

Any ideas?

Still hoping to get some ideas for why the above mentioned ways are happening.

Just thought I'd post just helped a little chick out of the shell again, it was pipping at the bottom end of the shell.

This is so weird, pips with no zips nor progress in 24 hours, chicks acting like they're to tangled up

to push out and chicks pipping at or nearer the small end of the egg.

However I'm happy to announce I have two new baby Light Sussex and 4 baby Swedish Flower Hen chicks so far!  jumpy.gif

  The chicks need to be able to move in the shell to zip.   If you opened the incubator during lock down the results would be chicks unable to zip, they basically become sticky and can't spin to zip. Or humidity could be whats causing your chicks being unable to zip.  Are they sticky or shrink wrapped?   These are common reasons for a chick not zipping Shrink Wrapped and Sticky Chick

Sometimes, the first egg(s) that pip, don't zip for a long time.Whenever I have the first pip, it just stays that way for the whole day, and the whole night. The next morning, there is no progress *sight* then you blink and it's out jumpy.gif

 

 

I think it's because the first pip is usually around day 19 or 20, and the chick is just not completely ready to come out yet, so thats why it seems as if it made no progress since the pip in the shell.Then after a long time, it feels it's ready, and hatches out real quick. I think it's because it has absorbed the yolk and gathered up strength all that time it was waiting after it pipped. 

Chickens are very addicting droolin.gif , everyone here is a chicken addict yippiechickie.gif, people may look at you weird when you tell them, but its way better to be addicted to chickens then all the other stuff out there.............

I was careful about not over candling (only twice in 17 days not including taking out

egg turner, not opening the bator during lockdown until an egg on day 21 didn't progress for 24 hours.

The last batch didn't give me all this grief hu.gif

 

Are Swedish Flower Hen chicks more a pain of a breed to hatch out than any other breed?

Were the eggs shipped? I find shipped eggs some chicks are just not as strong at hatching and sometimes pip the wrong end. What humidity did you use day 1 - 18 and lock down?
