You all PLEASE be carefull. Chickens held close to the face can suddenly peck the eyes. They aren't being mean, but they are attracted to the glint in your eye. Don't let this happen to you........Pop

I also found myself with a gentleman. He was not breeding quality, but his temperment with people saved him from the previous owner's stock pot. they are downsizing and I needed a good tempered roo. (i am king\queen chicken in my coop and will not tolerate competition)

He does not like to be touched, and he gets upset when you upset his girls... but does not fight with people. (I was warned not to put mature males with him, he is a fighter!)

Even though I do like to hug certain roosters, I do admit you have a point, Pop.  My chickens do like to peck things that shine and aggression has nothing to do with it.  One time I was checking inside the coop, one of my hens came up to me and I smiled in response and she pecked my teeth.  I didn't hurt, but if it had been my eye, it would have been a different story. I tend to hold my chickens in the crook of my arm more than face to face.
