Easter eggers and Americanas difference?

OK, here goes:  Ameraucanas are a specific breed, and if you look at an Ameraucana breeders club, you can read all about the breed standard, which shows the exact look of the bird, from the leg color, to the feathers and more.  They lay a sky blue egg.  There is also a breed called an Araucana, which lays a sky blue egg too.  You should google those breeds--they're really interesting!

Then you have the EEs, which we call Easter Eggers.  These are often sold by hatcheries, who call them Ameraucanas, or Araucanas, but they're not exactly true to the breed.  The EEs are beautiful, and they do have the genetics of the Ameraucanas and the Araucanas, but they're not quite pure breeds.

They lay different colored eggs too, mainly a pale, sea foam green, but some lay a pink egg, and some EEs lay a brown egg, which is usually disappointing to the person expecting colored eggs.

I think EEs are just beautiful.  Right now, I have two, and they're great layers!  They lay a large green egg almost every day for me.  So pretty too.  I've also had Ameraucanas, and they're nice as well, but truly, I prefer the EEs.  I get more eggs from them.

Anyhow, I think you will enjoy Easter Eggers alot!  If you really want a pure breed, that maybe you can show, you will want the Ameraucana, or the Araucana.

Take care!
