I have the square bator with the lid. The plug is attached to the top part, so I just remove the bottom with the eggs and go fast to the bathroom and git r done, then take it back and put the lid back on. I hate moving them because I am a klutz--- I worry I will trip and lose them all in one fell swoop

I'm too chicken to move my whole incubator!! I would most certainly end up dropping it! 

I use egg cartons to carry eggs, and feel less likely to drop any.

THis is a good opportunity to rearrange the eggs so they are not in the same hole. THe incubators have warmer and cooler zones.  A broody hen is off for an hour--at least mine are.

I was always too chicken to move my incubator til the last time and I had the loudest chick in the world hatch about 1130 pm....and it was in my room.  No one could sleep, so I very carefully and successfully moved it.  phew!  I broke such a sweat, because i'm extraordinarily clumsy.

So off topic, am I allowed to ask people to view my submission in a contest on diynetwork?  Its not voting and you don't have to register but you can give it stars 5 being the worst (which is what I want) but its not exactly a contest.  They judge you on your video and stuff...I think that it probabaly helps though.  So is that against the rules?

if it's linking to another forum.. then it's against the rules.. otherwise it should be ok as far as I know

I don't have a room without windows either, so I wait until after nightfall and turn off all of the lights in the house and the TV.  I set up a clean dish towel in front of the incubator in case I drop an egg on the table, and I candle right there.  It makes for quite a dramatic show after going around and turning off all of the lights.

I think you can.  I recall being asked to go to websites to vote for people's pictures, Christmas ornaments, and other stuff over the last year.  No reason why you can't do the same, especially because DIY Network is not a chicken forum, so there is not much overlap/competition there.

Darn it!! I was a day late!! I set 27 eggs on the 29th! 

Can I still join in but be a day late? I dont have to do be able to be in the contests I just would like to have someone to share the hatching experience with!!!

it's fine by me (I have a bunch of late hatchers.. lol).. but I'm not in charge here.. so maybe the powers that be will let ya know

Do I need to post a pic of the eggs I set in order to be eligible for the best hatch rate or worst hatch rate?
