First Swedish Hatches

My first Swedish duckling is out, dry, and eating.

He's lovely blue, with proper colored legs and bill, and a nice small round, clear bib in just the right location.  I can only see about 3 tiny white hairs on the end of one wing, so don't know if he will have proper white flights.

It's a relief to know that my Swedes are breeding true and  I received good show ducks and didn't just get the very few that looked good in an ordinary batch.

Right now, he's in a purple tote under a blue light and you can barely even see his slate gray body under those conditions. My son filled my brooder up with 50 Cornish Cross chicks, so I have to set up another brooder for my duckling. When I get him moved, I will get a photo of him.

Right now, I am trying to not disturb him so he can rest.  That business of getting out of an egg shell appears to be exhausting.
