First, watching a runner duck run is awesome. They can find their own food. They aren't like pekins in water. Mine haven't started laying but I heard their decent.

Its not as fat and slow as a pekin, but its not frail either. I want a mallard but I don't want a flying bird. The rouen is great for that.

They are my calmest birds and are easiest to catch. They eat less than Pekins. I heard they also lay well, but mine are younger.

I have a lab myself.....she def ain't no bird dog though Pretty darn defective. She lays down and lets the ducks do whatever they want to her....ie pulling her tail, ears, picking at her feet, jumping on her ect ect When she's had enough she will get up and walk away lmao I can't wait til my ducks are ready to go outside! They are sooooo messy lol 3 Rouens at about 2-3 weeks old and 3 pekins at 1 week

Owned By: 2 Pekin girls (Ming Ming and Giggles), a Saxony girl (Suzie), 3 Muscovies (Eeyore, Ellie and Eliza), Flemish Giant rabbits, a potbelly pig, chickens, 2 boer goats, and soon to be mom of a pair of bronze turkeys

"Pretty darn defective" - ha ha ha!

Our lab is a pretty smart dog. I think we can train him that certain birds aren't for hunting. However, our dog isn't the only one we have to worry about. The neighbors (~1/2 mile away) have 2 labs, one of which comes over to visit occasionally.

What kind of fencing are you using? I thought we might have issues with our American Bulldog, but the funny thing was the first nip on the nose he was outta there! LOL. Have you let your dog meet the birds and seen what he would do? My lab could care less, but he's 13 years old too! LOL

And... You know we all love pictures on here! hint hint!
