Human deterrent against bobcat? - Page 2

the ones here live so close to people they could care less, I normally catch a few a year  for what ever reason they seem to be particularly fond of turkeys and peafowl

The bobcat was the worst. They could clear a 8' pen from a dead sit without touching it. They could one paw a 10' pen. They are very determined creatures and will contemplate a way in. It took approximately 8000v to send them running and screaming. At 5000v they just turned around trying to figure out another way in. I haven't seen but one bobcat on my property since. We did these bait pens for over 3 years. This was a joint effort from myself and 2 neighboring farmers in my backyard. FYI...no birds were in harms way during this project.
If you decide to go this route I also suggest baiting the pen each night for a while. Take a piece of tinfoil and wrap it and some fish around the strand of electrical fencing in a few places around the perimeter of the pen(10lb box of whiting is pretty reasonable at the grocery store.) This will deter most predators that eat chicken. There are other ways I'm sure, but this works.
Good Luck!!!

My personal experience with bobcat is that they do not care, and at night they REALLY do not care.  I had one stalk some of my goats with me standing there with a flash light on it.  I lost 2 guinea hens, in the day and a half dozen chickens , once again during the day to them. (not all at once, spread out)

They can clear a 10 foot fence???  I was hopeing to one day fenceing in about a acre around the barn up to 8 or 10 feet high chian link.  Are you sure they can scale 10 feet of chain link?  sigh

Dont put anyting past a bobcat, and i'd say human urine will not do anything to them.  Its secure shelters, very good guard dogs, or spending half your time sitting around with a gun.

Lead(bullets) and steel(traps) are good deterrents. A game cam could be handy. He might could get an idea of what time it is coming through. Steel trap may not be an option, I don't know what all critters of his own he has running around.
I've got Bielefelders, Rhodebars, Cream Legbars, Black Sex Links, Buff Orpingtons, and a lone I Don't Know (packing peanut from greenfire).

Nicophorus, we watched them jump the fence several times. Also keep in mind anything that they can't quite jump over, they will just climb over with little effort. We also watched gray and red fox climb over into the pens.

We tried the bullets and traps but every-time we eliminated one within a month it seemed that two more took its place. They were terrible around here at that time. That is why we did the bait pens.

The bobcats around here are now eating house cats, my dad saw one with a dead white one in its mouth, obviously cat ladies have been shooting at them, it's so agile, my dad almost shot it, but it's got the cat-like reflexes.

It's the shape that makes the breed, and the color that makes the variety.

B'cats are fairly easy to cage trap as far as steel traps anything that will attract a house cat will bring a b'cat in feathers hanging around the trap christmas tinsel C/D's spinning in the wind etc catnip that I grow in my herb bed works well too

I considered taxidermy, but my mom was like "Just, no."

The one around here looks exactly like that, but bigger tufts, hiding right there next to the gate.
