Hen house idea...good? bad?

I had what I thought was a good idea today as I framed my hen house..... I was thinking of using a stall mat 4x6x.5 as the flooring inside the hen house where the wood shavings/bedding will be. Easy to Clean...Insulation...water proof... I can't see any bad aspects.

I am NOT a chicken professional, so take my suggestion with a grain of salt :)

I think, that, unless you have an extra one laying around and want to save money by using it, then you should look at linoleum sheet-much cheaper I am sure.

GL and tell us more about your chicken plans :)

I'm new:) and was also thinking of using horse matting, however, I found 'interlocking' waterproof mats, 4 to a package at The Christmas Tree Shop for 10.00,  each mat is 2 x 2, I used 3 packages to do my 4 x 12 area.  They interlock really tight, figured they are very light weight (stall mats are heavy:) will see how they work out, if not, it was a cheap experiement:)

I have stall mats in my duck barn and for my horses they work great BUT yes as said.. heavy, heavy.. heavy... did I mention heavy? lol yet they are super durable... really a matter of which you prefer and want to spend.
