if they pip at the wrong end, why do they die?

I did my last batch in cartons too and had one that did the whole hatch from the small end.  I didn't even know it was hatching.  My son looked in and said there's another one hatched and I had just looked a little bit before and saw nothing going on.  LOL  So I guess some times they can make it on their own from the small end.  Her little feet were up in the air kicking so I just turned her upright.

I am working very hard saying she instead of he.  For some reason I always want to say he.  The hatch before I got 2 roos and too hens.  The roos start showing color in the comb area first then the shoulder area starts showing bright color.  Mine started with red on the light guy and darker one has a reddish glow to the wing and shoulder area.  Also those legs give them away.

Here are the hens  Not good pictures but it is hard to take them when I can't see what I am doing. LOL

The Turken roo there is 4 1/2 weeks old.  He showed his comb and wattles early on.  I thought that one of the other Turkens was a roo but now I am thinking it is a hen.  I have two grown hens and one has a very large comb so I thought she was a roo for a long time.  I am happy I have three hens this time with the one roo.  The EEs didn't show too much color on their combs but they are wider than the little girls combs.  I could tell the were roos also by their coloring.  Especially the light one.  He got the reddish feathers around his shoulders and wings.  The dark one is a little more sutler but those feathers have a sheen on them.

You can see a Turken hen in the first picture on the right.    I really think they mature earlier than the other chicks so they are easier to tell......anyhow now I can tell better. LOL
