Buffy is our only Orpington. She is independent, lower on the pecking order, but big, fluffy and likes to cluck. She lays frequently when not broody. She's my only brooder so far that I have...

Hi emmalynn!
I see you've had experience ordering from Ruth in the past. How long did it take before you received a response? I've got a broody Orpington hen who loves to adopt chicks so I ordered 10 chicks from Ruth. I sent payment two days ago via Paypal (following the instructions on the classified ad) and have not received a response. I private messaged her through BYC and sent her an E-Mail. No response. My husband left her a voicemail message yesterday morning, using the phone number on her webpage for Bethel Plantation. No response. It's only been two days so maybe I'm just being paranoid, but it's my first time ordering chicks from a classified ad and my hen won't accept chicks for much longer (the eggs she's currently brooding died in the heat, otherwise they would've hatched 07/04/12. She'll figure that out soon!). Based on her reviews and other responses, Ruth seems like a very reliable seller so I'm probably being paranoid, but I thought I'd ask! Any advice?
Thanks!!
Hi Annie - I've submitted your refund. I'm sorry I'm so late responding. I'm not on BYC much since I have waiting lists for all of my breeds. It's been a busy week here on the farm. It was the 4th of July and we had a family reunion planned for here. A national magazine is coming to take photos and run a story on our tours which we've started and our farm so we've been busy outside getting things in shape. I didn't even know a PayPal payment had come in and while my husband told me someone had called, I misunderstood and thought he had talked to them, not that they had left a message.
Normally, I discuss via e-mail how long the wait is and only take a deposit. I don't think you will be able to slip shippped chicks under a broody. I could be wrong but by the time you order and get chicks they are too old to slip under a broody and have her fall for it. You might consider getting more eggs to put under her. If she's really broody, she will sit till something hatches. She doesn't know how to count to 21 days and they will sit on rotten eggs or even on nothing. I'd advise that you slip fresh eggs under her and be sure she's still eating and drinking and she will be fine. Good luck with her and I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner.
