4/17/12 Hatch buddy anyone? - Page 17

Wow!! That was fast...that little guy was raring to go! There was the tiniest little pip at 6:30 am, this morning and he zipped and hatched by 11:10 am! Here are a few photos...

Also, we hadn't thought that the 2nd egg had pipped yet, but once the 1st one got stumbling around in there, he bumped the 2nd egg and we could see that he had pipped on the under-side of the egg! Now, I'm just hoping that the kids have time to get here, from school, before he hatches.

Well good news, bad news...Bad news is that only 3 of the standard eggs were viable, and only 2 bantie eggs were viable so only 5 chicks hatched. Good news? All 5 striped, chipmunks are  already out and following momma around! There's also the CUTEST little runt that happened to be a bantie so he's extra tiny. Hopefully he makes it! ^.^

YES!! A hatch! Finally! After 18 hours since pip, I have a darling partridge silkie I named Whimsy.

I will post pics later, right now I can't because the windows to the bator are too tiny and fogged up to do much.

Whenever I get silkie eggs, I mark the runt egg, becuase I have a special liking for the tiniest of the tiny eggs.

And this was the tiniest silkie egg I've ever encountered. I actually didn't think she would hatch becasuse it was too small! About the size of a ping-pong ball (But oval shaped).

I'm so happy! wee.gif

1 hatch

4 pips

1 inactive egg

Oh, and by the way, congrats Rainbow Chicks :)

Happy owner of 12 silkies, 1 polish!

I haven't seen any pips or even motion from the other eggs. I broke the rules and pulled the two out and put them in their own brooder. that room is just full...two sets of chicks in brooders, the hatchlings in a brower brooder (for 100...just the two of them...argh) and two rabbits in quarantine because we just purchased them. I have NO WHERE else to put the poor rabbits so they have a fan and everyone seems quite comfy.

So, day 22 for me...do I leave them a few more days, sneak a couple out to candle, or just call it a day and set my duck eggs.

Or can I set my duck eggs now since I'm not sure if the others are good. But than I'd be opening the incubator to turn....

Me, being the impatient me that I am, would pull them out quick and candle.  But I can sneak mine out a side armhole and still maintain humidity in the bator.  I figure moving them a little to candle won't hurt them much -  after all, they get rolled around so bad by the other chicks hatching before them!  I would also set the duck eggs (again, that's just me!)  I have 30 Guinea eggs in mine right now that I still have to turn during my hatch, although I am slightly worried about the few days of higher humidity I've had to have for the hatch!  Hope it didn't hurt the Guineas.  But duck eggs need higher humidity anyway, don't they?  I would think you would be just fine....

I tend to agree with you. I had one more chick hatch and I pulled her out too, soccer player that she was.

I'm a crappy candler, though. LOL

One is cracked, I'm not sure what it's from. I know my humidity was too high in the beginning so I'm agonizing a little about them drowing and needing help and I'm doing nothing. I'm such a big baby.
