Best meat bird for me? - Page 3

Ask around and see if you can split an order with someone?

or sell the extra chicks that you don't want?

I think I am going to go ahead and order them. Its only for 11 weeks right? And I do have a freezer that needs to be filled.

How do the grow? I mean, how fast, do they overeat at all? What did the people who bought them think? Is there anywhere I can go to read their comments? How much are the eggs? What are the birds like and how old can they get? Can you give me a bit more info?

My sweet puppy, Maggie (1yo), 3 adorable baby pet rats, Darby, Lilah, and Faye, 3 cats, 2 bunnies, a goldfish named Ghoti (pronounced "Fish"), 1 Khaki Campbell duckling, 1 Magpie duckling, and lots and lots of chickens!

I have spent more time cleaning chicken butt in the past week than I want to admit. A fast growing bird is a good thing, but these guys do it too fast. I will be slaughtering them in a week or two (sooner if the gleet doesn't clear up) and am looking for another bird to try this summer. I was thinking of Delawares or Freedom Rangers. My only complaint about the Freedom Rangers (or Rainbow Rangers) is that you have to get 25 other than that they seem great. I have 11 other birds and 36 is a little more than I want to take on right now.

I would like freedom rangers and the minimum order is what is holding me back too. Hmmm...I am going to start looking for someone to split an order I guess.
