pic #1 looks almost like an EE. Mine had the same coloring only she has a blue tint to her feet. It may be a speckled sussex too

Another newbie here; I just want to guess and then see if I'm right when somebody who knows what they're talking about weighs in.

My guesses are;

EE and black australorp.

I'm sorry. I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am.

Lots of chicks are chipmonk colored. Post pics again in a few weeks.

Second chick is something barred, the head spot is a giveaway, I'm thinking barred rock pullet. .

Well, the kittens aren't so cute anymore and the easter egger cockerels are in the freezer. Plus, I think offering them as "prizes" scared folks off! So, I'm still posting quotes, if you know it let me know. I'm very enamored of this new one, it may hang around for a while!

Barred referrs to the color where there are black and white "bars" on the feathers. A bird can be barred with colors other than black, but it's unusual and your bird is definately black. Check the breeds for barred rocks.

The second looks like a barred rock, maybe a dominique(can't see the comb well). If you can take a better pic of the comb it will be easier to identify.
