Incubator issues, Will the eggs still hatch? - Page 2

I am having one Pip right now and I thought I had a disaster on my hand I had two distressed chicks who needed extra help so I was in and out of it way more than I would have liked to be .. And to my horror found out some one accidentally unplugged it for how long I do not know. So I assumed I had probably ruined this batch. Yet today I see a little movement and one is in there pecking away with a small peek hole .. Good Luck !!

I have about 20 Mature Hens and Roosters Different Breeds (RIR's, EE's, OEGB, Buff Orp.'s)  and approximately 60 Chicks different ages and a large variety adding more constantly (Jersey Giants, Black Australorp, White leghorn, Buff Orps.'s RIR and mixed bred), Three Dogs One Pure Bread Doxie two mixed Breeds, 4 Ducks (2 white Peking, One Muscovy, One mixed breed)2 baby Mallard chicks , 2...

i'm starting over new.  This sucks.  But one blew up on it's own.  Then i took several out (after candling and not seeing movement) and decided best to remove them.
I have ONE egg that shows movement in it.  Not sure if i should even leave that one in there at this point.  Thinking of just removing all of them and starting over.  I don't want anymore in the house explosions.
I think it comes from the temp control issues and the water issues.  Plus may have had humidity to high from the start or something.  :(  this sucks though.  This time going to try to keep humidity low.

I had this problem with a couple last hatch.  It is only my second hatch but this is what I was told.  this is day 21 for me and last time it was a few days over and I know what day for certain they should have hatched.  I was told to put a pin hole in the air sack area.  this does two things...it makes them not explode and gives the chicks more time to hatch if they are alive.  I did it and had success.  I know from last night they are still alive but not one has hatched.  this is frusterating!!!  I don't want to lose a whole hatch.  I am sure my temp was at 99 the entire time with very little influx during turning.  I am also sure the humidity may have been a bit too high.  I am going to start peeling if they don't hatch by tonight.  I figure its a science proj for the kids and they are going to die anyway.  grrr.

Helping can def be a bad idea .. I have with a few and did have Good Luck.. Always best if you hear them or don't know for sure there is a problem to let the chick take its time it can be very very slow going .. A Better experiment may be to give it the extra day .. And sadly if you have to you could autopsy together ... How Ever If you do Help it and see any Blood I hope you will stop immediately .. wrap it fast with like a moist wet paper towel and put it right back in.. I would Hate for the kids to watch it suffer and die ... and they do sometimes stop bleeding and continue to absorb the sack .. Again assisting rarely has Happy ending.. But I was told that too and have especially if I saw decreased activity and chirping stopped after a long wait or if they pipping at the wrong end  .. Good Luck to you both ..

I took and opened mine up just a minute ago. did one in the house BOOM rotten egg all over my shirt.   I think a few days ago when my incubator got to high in humidity it caused all but one to rot.  one egg had a fully formed chick in it.  I knew one would.  as the day it was high i kept hearing chirping but couldn't figure out which egg it was.  and didn't feel right helping a chick out.  I've helped in the past and it caused a chick to suffer for 2 days before dieing.  Sometimes nature needs to take it's course.
All the other eggs were rotten and blowing up.  Not cool.
I have new eggs.  Hopefully they will do good.  I am checking it every few minutes (though i shouldn't) to make sure that the incubator has the right humidity.  I'm trying lower humidity this time.  Last time I allowed it to go up to 60% This time i'm gunna try for 45% to 50%  then at day 18 go up to 60%.

Oh and i am thinking when I get some extra cash getting an incubator like one i had success with in the past with an egg turner.  Turning the eggs myself sucks.  I rather put eggs into a machine and check it once in a while.  I use to check them every night before bed to make sure there was water in it.
Sadly my brother wanted to borrow it and then threw it away because his eggs didn't hatch after 2 weeks (idiot).  it was $300 for my whole set up last time.

This time i spent $10 on a used incubator.  Starting to think used isn't the way to go.
wonder if making my own incubator would work better.

how do you put a pinhole in them without cracking the egg?  I've never tried it but wouldn't it cuase the whole egg to crack?  My problem turned out to be all but one was rotted or had stopped growing at around a week in.

yes it can be very bad.  If they die they die naturally without help.  All mine are still alive and the pin hole is for when you know its been 18 hrs and they still haven't cracked the egg after pipping.  a pin will make an actual pin hole without a crack.  it is a last case so they don't explode.  anyway it worked with 3 of my duck eggs.  I admit cruelty tonight though.  one egg out of the 51 I peeled the top and the chick was still alive and it serves me right if it dies.  its killing me.  I am a big baby when something dies.  my hubby informed me I have two more days till over incubation.  I am sad.
