My Buff Orps are 3 months old, still cheeping like tiny chicks. When will they start cackling and sounding like hens?

My Amber Links and Golden Comets occasionally make "big chicken" sounds and they are at 6-7 weeks. You can just barely hear it occasionally though, mostly still peeping.

Mine are 7 weeks and still pretty much still make the peeping sounds. Try to pet or pickup one while she's foraging though and you they that chicken "leave me alone" sound.

They start to cluck a lil while before they start laying. Three months old, our chickens were still peeping at it. Big chicken, tiny voice, quite amusing really.
The clucking should come with all the other things, like the bigger combs.

Different sounds :p
But while my chicks used to peep all the time, there will be periods when the hens quietly forage and don't really cluck much. So no, they don't really get particularly loud... until they start laying and you hear the egg song, that is.

My oldest are 11 weeks old and they've been clucking for a couple weeks now. The Cuckoo Marans makes me laugh...her big girl voice sounds like a goose. She definitely has a strident tone. None of them are loud though, and I am GLAD the baby peeping is nearly over. I like clucking better :D
