Urgent help and advice needed (Deltona, FL) - Page 3

Hey guys and gals, another update. For now everything seems to be going smoothly. We got a piece in the local newspaper. It was a positive spin.

I am also in talks with the larger regional newspaper and they want to dedicate a whole article to the movement.

Here is the local article (about halfway down): http://www.myhometownnews.net/index.php?id=92480

Thank you all for your help. I am now trying to do more and more outreach and I am learning a lot in the process.

Wow,

Your mayor sounds reasonable.  When are they going to vote on the change?

I too am a Deltona City resident and would like to support this as possible. When will it go to vote? Thank you much for your efforts so far!

Good luck, I live (unfortunantly..) there too and would support it too.

Congrats!

I am not sure about when they will be voting. The commission meets every 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. We are not on the agenda for this upcoming meeting, so at the earliest, we could be slated for 6/18/12.

We had our first TV spot this evening. It was on FOX 35 at 10 and it was a positive spin. I was very nervous, but hopefully the major points were communicated. I really wish they would have let me promote the facebook group, but oh well. Thanks for all the support. If you can join the group "Chickens for Deltona" on facebook, and get like minded people who live in Deltona to do so, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Congrats! I would put fliers up at every feed store in the area, and pet stores too. Let people know this is happening. You got very far very quickly. Oh and don't forget Tampa and Orlando both recently allowed chickens (even of Orlando is a trial basis and to pre approved homes). Brevard county is in the middle of looking at this same change.

Good luck!  I'm really impress how you have worked with the commission, and I am glad that the people on the commission have been open to considering chickens.  The facebook page was a good idea.  I hope you get a good showing, and I will keep my fingers crossed for you all.

Well last night was not what we expected. They shut it down unanimously. Even the local media was a bit appalled at the results and reasons given. All of the objections were already addressed within the code itself and the two gentlemen who spoke out against were misinformed in their comments.

But the good news is that I met a local supporter. He has been spreading the word and going other routes which I had not explored. So we are going to join forces and move forward to gain more support. They will not be able to dismiss us so easily next time.

So for now, we are gathering ammunition and moving forward in the fight. Thanks to everyone for their support and we hope that you will continue to fight with us, till common sense wins over.
