First, watching a runner duck run is awesome. They can find their own food. They aren't like pekins in water. Mine haven't started laying but I heard their decent.

Its not as fat and slow as a pekin, but its not frail either. I want a mallard but I don't want a flying bird. The rouen is great for that.

They are my calmest birds and are easiest to catch. They eat less than Pekins. I heard they also lay well, but mine are younger.

Hi everyone Im new to BYC.

I have always wanted to start a small farm even as a child. My boyfriend and I have recently bought 4 rhode island reds and 1 pekin chicks from the local hardware store. They were unsexed. Im so excited to watch them grow and start laying eggs. We are hoping to have atleast one rooster so we can have more chicks.

I am fairly new to raising poultry. I was raised around horses. However my boyfriend's family had perdue chicken houses so he knows a little about chickens. However he is more familiar with cows and goats. We do have friends who have raised chickens for some time.

Someday I would like to have more chickens, ducks, horses, dairy and angus cows, hogs, and goats.

I would love any advice and feedback.
